Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

METAIRIE, La. -- Rob Brantly homered and drove in three runs to lead the New Orleans Zephyrs to a 5-0 victory over the Albuquerque Isotopes on Friday night at Zephyr Field.

Brantly, who came into the game with no RBIs in 60 at-bats over 17 gameS at Triple-A, hit a run-scoring double in the fourth inning to score the game's first run.

Chris Coghlan hit a solo home run in the fifth off Angel Castro (8-5), who allowed two runs in six innings and took the loss.

The Zephyrs added three runs in the eighth off Javy Guerra. Brantly hit a two-run homer that was a "splash hit" landing on the fly in the swimming pool beyond the right-field fence. Coghlan also singled home a run in the eighth.

The Isotopes (74-67) were held to five hits. The only extra-base hit was by Castro, the first extra base-hit of his career. The Topes stranded the bases loaded in the third and fifth innings, left two on base in the seventh, and one in the ninth.

New Orleans starter Matt Neil (3-3) pitched two scoreless innings. Then relievers Zach Phillips, Jonathan Albaladejo and Chris Hatcher preserved the shutout. It was the fourth time this year the Topes were blanked.

Game two of the four-game series -- and the third-to-last game of the 2013 season -- will be Saturday night. Matt Palmer starts for Albuquerque. Jared Rogers gets the ball for New Orleans. First pitch is at 5 pm MT and can be heard on 610 "The Sports Animal" with Josh Suchon on the call.
