The Reno Aces scored two runs with two outs in the ninth to defeat the Tucson Padres 2-1 Thursday in the final home game at Kino Stadium. The Padres finished with a 42-30 home record. Tucson was eliminated from the playoff chase earlier in the day when Las Vegas won at Colorado Springs.

Reno starting pitcher Charles Brewer held the Padres scoreless though the first three innings until Gregorio Petit's RBI single to left put Tucson in front 1-0 in the fourth. The Aces loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth when Alfredo Marte's single through the left side gave Reno the lead. Scott Moore led off the bottom of the ninth with a single to center, but David Hernandez was able to retire the next three hitters to seal the victory for the Aces.

Reno reliever Joe Paterson earned the win, while Tommy Layne was charged with the loss. Padres starter Burch Smith tossed seven shutout innings allowing three hits and no walks, while striking out a season-high ten batters. Dean Anna went 1-for-4 at the plate Thursday to keep his Pacific Coast League-leading average at .333.
