Redbirds Soar over the RedHawks, 4-0

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Memphis Redbirds defeated the Oklahoma City RedHawks 4-0 on Friday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Four pitchers combined for the Redbirds' PCL-leading 14th combination shutout.
With Omaha defeating Round Rock, the Storm Chasers and Redbirds remain tied atop the American Northern Division. Iowa lost to Nashville and is 3.0 games back. All three teams have three games remaining.
The Redbirds (68-73) had nine hits and three of their four runs came with two outs. The RedHawks (80-61) stranded 10 runners on base. Oklahoma City has already clinched the American Southern Division and is hosting the first two games of the American Conference Championship Series.
Adron Chambers had two hits, a stolen base and scored twice. Greg Garcia had two hits and a score, Jamie Romak added two RBIs and Travis Tartamella knocked a RBI-double.
Memphis starter Richard Castillo (1-2) was promoted from Springfield earlier in the day; he had made four starts for the Redbirds earlier in the season. The right-hander threw five innings of four-hit, shutout ball. Castillo walked one, struck out four, and hit a batter.
Tyler Lyons followed with two innings of perfect relief work. The lefty struck out two on 19 pitches, 13 for strikes.
The Redbirds opened the scoring in the first to go up 1-0. Chambers and Ryan Jackson led off the game with back-to-back singles to right. Romak plated Chambers with one out on a base hit through the left side.
Memphis added another run against Oklahoma City starter Jake Buchanan (5-5) in the seventh inning. Garcia led off the inning with a bunt single and was later driven home by the Tartamella two-out double to put the 'Birds up 2-0.
Reliever Reymin Guduan, making his RedHawk debut, came on for the third out of the seventh. Before recording it, Guduan walked the bases loaded. Brock Peterson collected his 84th RBI on an infield hit and Romak walked in a run to give the visitors a 4-0 edge.
Buchanan would end the evening with six 2/3 innings pitched, allowing three runs on eight hits with no walks and six strikeouts. Guduan finished with two 1/3 innings pitched, giving up a run on a hit with three walks and four strikeouts.
Jose Almarante, making his Triple-A debut after Thursday's promotion, tossed a one-hit eighth inning for Memphis. The righty got two hits and one out into the bottom of the ninth before giving way to Keith Butler, who finished the game. Butler struck out the two batters he faced to earn his second save.
In game two of the season-ending series in Oklahoma City on Saturday, the Redbirds will send right-hander Scott McGregor (5-10, 4.85 ERA) to the mound. The RedHawks will counter with righty David Martinez (0-1, 4.50 ERA) for the 7:05 p.m. CT first pitch.
