Zach Frye Loaned to Solar Bears from San Jose Barracuda

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Orlando Solar Bears have announced that the San Jose Barracuda of the American Hockey League have loaned rookie defenseman Zach Frye to Orlando. The Solar Bears have also traded rookie defenseman Carter Struthers to the Adirondack Thunder in exchange for future considerations. Furthermore, the club has released rookie forward Manny Gialedakis.
Frye, 24, has skated in five games with the Barracuda this season, producing two points (1g-1a). The 6-foot-1, 185-pound blueliner has appeared in 16 career pro games, all with San Jose, generating four points (1g-3a) and 25 penalty minutes.
Prior to turning pro, the native of Spokane, Washington played four seasons of college hockey for the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, where he played in 136 career games for the Nanooks program and registered 77 points (21g-56a) and 254 penalty minutes.
Frye also played junior hockey in the United States Hockey League for the Lincoln Stars, where he amassed 45 points (13g-32a) and 464 penalty minutes in 145 games. He also played part of one season with the Wenatchee Wild of the North American Hockey League, where he recorded 23 points (6g-17a) and 130 penalty minutes in 38 games.
Struthers, 26, signed with Orlando on Jan. 9. He appeared in six games and recorded four penalty minutes.
Gialedakis, 26, signed with Orlando on Feb. 1 and skated in two games with the Solar Bears.
