Military Appreciation Night Raises Record $38,000

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays, proud affiliate of the National Hockey League's Washington Capitals, have announced that a record-high of over $38,000 was raised through the team's postgame jersey auction on January 19 after the game against the Orlando Solar Bears which was played in front of a season-high 9,676 fans.

Part of the proceeds will go to the Charleston Warriors, an affiliate of the USA Warriors Ice Hockey Program, which provides awareness, training, coaching, and equipment for Veterans as part of their adaptive ice hockey sports program. They are primarily focused on providing on-going rehabilitative, therapeutic, and whole-life adaptive sports opportunities for a large and growing population of disabled Veterans and active members of the Armed Forces.

The total funds raised was the most ever at one of the team's Military Appreciation Night jersey auctions, which have been taking place for over a decade.

"We are incredibly grateful and indebted to the men and women of the armed forces who protect our freedoms," said Stingrays President Rob Concannon. "After learning more about the Charleston Warriors, supporting their program was an easy decision for us. Our active and retired military veterans have always been a huge part of Stingrays hockey and help create an electric atmosphere in the arena for this game."

The jersey of fan-favorite Patrick Gaul gained the highest bid at the live auction, raising $4,800. The jerseys of forward Grant Besse, who had a goal and an assist in the game, as well as fan-favorite forward Tim Harrison, each went for $2,200. In addition, forward Andrew Cherniwchan, who recently represented the Stingrays at the 2019 ECHL All-Star Classic in Toledo, saw his jersey go for $2,000.

South Carolina returns to the North Charleston Coliseum on Friday, February 15 for their first matchup ever with the Newfoundland Growlers at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are on sale now!
