Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

SAN ANTONIO - Corpus Christi scored seven times over the first two innings Sunday night, and Keegan Yuhl capitalized as the Hooks cruised to an 8-4 victory over the Missions.

Corpus Christi (46-23) has won 17 of its last 20 games and stands 12-1 against San Antonio (22-47) this year.

Yuhl (7-1) was charged with two unearned runs over seven innings of work. Both tallies came across in the third, a 30-pitch frame for Yuhl. The Texas League South All-Star has allowed two earned runs over his last five starts, a span of 30 innings. Yuhl is a victory shy of tying the club record for consecutive wins by a pitcher.

The first four Hooks batters reached against Zech Lemond, making his first Double-A start. J.D. Davis delivered a bases-loaded single and Conrad Gregor followed with a sac fly. Nick Tanielu and Roberto Pena capped the first with a pair of RBI singles.

Trailing 4-0, Lemond (0-1) started the second by getting two quick outs. Derek Fisher smashed an infield hit off the glove of first baseman Taylor Lindsey. Davis then worked a walk, setting the stage for Gregor who belted a two-run double high off the fence in right. Tanielu sent him home with a single up the middle.

Lemond, a Rice product and Houston native, surrendered a lead-off double to Pena in the third. One out later, Hernandez hit a high fly ball which was lost in the sun by Nick Torres. The ball landed in shallow left-center, enabling Pena to score Corpus Christi's eighth run.

Adam Cimber, Tayron Guerrero and Rafael De Paula teamed to keep the Hooks off the scoreboard over the final six innings.

Michael Freeman was touched for two runs on four singles in the San Antonio ninth.

The first half concludes Monday night as Hooks lefty Kent Emanuel (1-0, 2.95) draws Dinelson Lamet (0-2, 7.45). First pitch is 7:05.
