June 18, 2007 - International League (IL1)
Indianapolis Indians News Release

INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis left-hander Shane Youman (pronounced "YOU-min") has been named the International League's Pitcher of the Week for the period of June 11-17. Youman went 2-0 with a 0.59 ERA (1 ER in 15.1 IP) in two starts during the stretch.

Youman recorded the longest scoreless outing of his six-year professional career on June 11 at Charlotte (8.0 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 SO). He then registered a career-best 10 strikeouts on June 16 at Durham (7.1 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 10 SO).

Youman is 3-5 with a 4.44 ERA on the season and 2-1 with a 2.34 ERA over his last four starts. He has posted a 3-1 record and 2.04 ERA in six starts on the road this year.

"Shane had a great week and is very deserving of this honor," Indians Manager Trent Jewett says. "I think he's starting to get comfortable with his situation here in Indianapolis.

"Last year, Shane pitched in Double-A, Triple-A and the Major Leagues. Then, this spring, he was competing for a big league job. Things have happened pretty quickly and he may have been overwhelmed at the beginning of the year."

The 27-year-old is in his sixth season with the Pittsburgh organization after being selected by the Pirates in the 43rd round of the 2001 draft. He first reached the Triple-A level in 2006 when he posted a 4-0 record and 4.04 ERA in eight appearances for the Indians.

Youman did not suffer a setback in his final 21 Minor League appearances a season ago (May 25-Sept. 4). The native of New Iberia, La., entered the year with a 33-13 record and 3.08 ERA in 182 Minor League outings.

Youman is the third Indian to receive the honor in 2007. Catcher Ryan Doumit was recognized by the league on April 23, while right-hander John Van Benschoten was honored May 14.
