Duncan Grand Slam Lifts Yankees Over Bulls

June 18, 2007 - International League (IL1)
Durham Bulls News Release

Durham, NC - Shelly Duncan's grand slam off LHP Jeff Ridgway in the top of the seventh inning erased a 5-3 Bulls lead and gave the Scranton-Wilkes Barre (WB) Yankees a 7-5 win on Monday night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Steve Andrade (2-2) began the seventh inning but was unable to get anyone out. He walked the first two hitters, gave up a single to the third and then unleashed a wild pitch allowing the first run of the inning to score. Ridgway entered the game after Andrade's third walk of the inning to reload the bases. Ridgway managed to get the first hitter out before Duncan's Grand Slam over the left field wall gave the Yankees the lead for good.

Durham trailed 1-0 after three and a half innings, but took the lead in the fourth on RBI-singles by Elliot Johnson and Jeremy Owens. Scranton-WB tied the game in the fifth inning, but the Bulls rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on a home run by Joel Guzman and a two-run triple by Jeremy Owens to take a 5-2 lead.

RHP Chris Britton (2-0) picked up the win in relief allowing three runs on three hits and a walk. Andrade took the loss allowing four runs on two hits and three walks.

The Bulls and Yankees face off again on Tuesday night at 7:00 PM at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Tickets are available at (919) 956-BULL or online at www.durhambulls.com.
