York Revolution News Release

The York Revolution dropped its fourth straight loss, with a 3-1 defeat suffered at the hands of the Camden Riversharks on a hot Thursday evening at Campbell's Field in Camden, NJ. York finishes the month of May with a 10-14 record, and now trails Camden by three games in the south division standings, as the Riversharks improve to 14-12. The loss was also the sixth in the last seven games, and seventh in the last nine games for York.

Camden sent starter Kevin Walker to the mound boasting the league's third best ERA at 2.03. York countered with Matt Hirsh, making his fifth appearance and third start of the season.

The Riversharks opened the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the second innings, on two hits and two walks. Craig Paquette lifted an RBI sac fly to center, and Denny Abreu provided an RBI single to right-center.

Camden added to its lead with a run in the third. Ben Davis led off with a triple to right-center, and scored as the next batter, L.J. Biernbaum, doubled off the fence in left, putting the Sharks up 3-0.

After the double, Hirsh settled into a groove retiring the next 11 batters he faced. He did not allow another runner to reach until he gave up two hits with two outs in the sixth. Neither runner scored, as Hirsh went six innings in the game, allowing three earned runs on seven hits, three walks, and four strikeouts.

York scored its lone run of the night in the top of the fifth inning. Rayner Bautista led off with a single to right-field, and went to second on a sacrifice bunt by former Rivershark Ramon Nivar, who was signed by the Revolution prior to the game. Bautista advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on Willie Matos' RBI swinging bunt ground out to Walker.

Walker did not allow a run the rest of the night, as he went eight innings, allowing four hits, one walk, and striking out three.

The Revolution bullpen did its job of keeping the score at 3-1. Right-hander Jason Olson retired the side in order in the seventh inning, striking out one. Righty Byron Batson, signed prior to the game, tossed a 1-2-3 eighth.

Camden closer Chris Fussell worked a scoreless ninth inning for his league-leading ninth save of the season. Walker (3-1) took the win for Camden, while Hirsh (0-3) suffered the loss for York.

The Revolution managed just four hits for the second time in three games, and is now 2-12 when being out-hit this season. The Riversharks had seven hits in the game. Neither team committed an error. York stranded three base runners, while Camden left six. The game was played in two hours and 17 minutes in front of 2,856 fans.

York concludes its 11-day stay in Camden Friday night against the Riversharks at 7:05 p.m. Lefty Anthony Ferrari makes the start for Camden, while York's starting pitcher has not yet been announced. It is the rotation spot previously filled by Ryan Baerlocher who was signed by the Atlanta Braves earlier this week. Notes: Revolution first baseman Matt Dryer left the game in the second inning for an unspecified reason... Danny Bautista and manager Chris Hoiles were both ejected in the sixth inning by home plate umpire Matt Beaver for arguing whether a ball hit by Bautista was foul; Bautista was tagged out by catcher Ben Davis on a ball he thought was foul at the plate; the ejections were the first two in Revolution history... the game was the tenth out of 11 consecutive played by the Revolution at Campbell's Field; York is now 7-8 in Camden, including 3-5 against the Riversharks... York has lost the last four meetings with Camden.
