Hartford Yard Goats News Release

Hartford, CT - The Yard Goats used a seven-run second inning to defeat the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 11-4 on Sunday afternoon in front of a sellout at Dunkin' Park. Hartford scored seven runs with the assistance of six walks, including four with the bases loaded. Four Yard Goats players had a multi-RBI day including Julio Carreras who drove in three with consecutive hits in the second and third frames. Colin Simpson added the final run of the game with his fourth home run of the campaign. Starter Gabriel Hughes, the Colorado Rockies' No. 5 prospect, recorded the win in a five-inning effort. Hartford is now 7-4 in the second half.

The Fisher Cats found themselves in front early once again. New Hampshire utilized back-to-back doubles by PK Morris and Steward Berroa to gain a 3-0 lead. Will Robertson led the inning off with a single followed by Rainer Nunez who reached base next by way of an error by Hughes. With two out, Riley Tirotta made it safely to second due to a fielding error by Hunter Goodman. Morris and Berroa would then hit a double apiece, scoring the first runs of the ball game in the top of the second inning.

The Yard Goats responded their next time at the plate with another inning of six or more runs, their second this homestand. To begin the bottom of the second frame, Hartford used an error by first baseman Morris and five walks combined by Fisher Cats starter Nick Fraze, and reliever Andrew Bash to even the score at three. With the bases full, shortstop Julio Carreras laced a two-run RBI single into center field to give the Goats their first advantage. Bladimir Restituyo would then match Carreras with a single of his own. Colin Simpson worked the sixth walk of the inning, scoring Goodman from third. Niko Decolati stretched out the lead even more, sending another run across with an RBI groundout. After two innings, Hartford led 7-2.

The Yard Goats continued to add on in the next two frames. Christopher Navarro began the fourth inning with a double into left field. After Bret Boswell walked, Carreras stayed hot at the plate, driving in his third run of the ball game with a single off Fisher Cats' reliever Naswell Paulino. Hartford brought its advantage to seven runs in the fifth inning. Navarro scorched a line drive triple into right field to score Braxton Fulford who reached base through New Hampshire's ninth walk of the contest. Kyle Datres then roped a single into center field for his second RBI of the afternoon.

Colin Simpson extended his hitting streak to five games with a 418-foot home run over the right field fence in the sixth inning.

Andrew Quezada, Adam McKillican, and Mike Ruff combined to shut out New Hampshire in the final four innings. McKillican has not allowed a hit in two out of his last three appearances on the mound.

Following the All-Star break, the Yard Goats head off to Erie, Pennsylvania for a three-game series against the Detroit Tigers Double-A Affiliate, the Erie SeaWolves. The two will clash in the first contest on Friday, July 14 (6:35 pm) at UPMC Park. The Yard Goats took two out of the last three games in the five-game series against the SeaWolves in Hartford back in June. The Yard Goats return to Dunkin' Park on Tuesday, July 18 (7:10 pm) to begin a six-game set against the New York Yankees Double-A Affiliate, the Somerset Patriots.
