
Yard Goats Lose 2-1 to Richmond on Sunday Afternoon

Hartford, Conn- The Hartford Yard Goats were beaten by the Richmond Flying Squirrels by the score of 2-1 at Dunkin' Donuts Park in front of 5,632 fans on Sunday afternoon. It was Hartford's second straight one-run loss and the rubber game of the series. Richmond starter Cory Taylor and four relievers limited the Yard Goats to only one run on four hits while winning the series. Ryan McMahon clubbed a double, his team leading 8th of the season. The three game weekend series attracted a total of 18,626 fans to Hartford.
The Flying Squirrels scored a pair of runs in the second inning off Hartford starting pitcher Sam Howard. Chris Shaw led off with a single and Hunter Cole followed with a double to set up the rally. Shaw scored on Carlos Garcia's grounder and Cole came in on Rando Moreno's ground out giving Richmond a 2-0 lead.
Richmond starter Cory Taylor only allowed one single and a walk in four scoreless innings before the Yard Goats scored a run in the fifth. Josh Fuentes led off with a single and after Jan Vazquez walked Luis Niebla bunted the runners to second and third. Luis Jean's grounder scored Fuentes and made it a 2-1 game.
The Yard Goats had only two baserunners in the final four innings of the contest. McMahon ripped a double with one out in the sixth inning and Drew Weeks had a single in the ninth inning. Relievers Jose Flores, Carlos Alvarado, Christian Jones and Tyler Cyr retired nine of ten batters faced. Hartford relievers Luis Niebla and Troy Neiman combined to work five scoreless innings.
The Yard Goats open up a 3-game series against the Boston Red Sox affiliate Portland Sea Dogs on Monday night at 7:05 PM at Dunkin' Donuts Park. RHP Ryan Castellani will start for the Yard Goats while LHP Trey Bell will pitch for the Sea Dogs. The broadcast can be heard on AM 1410 WPOP or on iheart radio.
