Summary
The Akron RubberDucks erupted for eight runs in the seventh inning Sunday afternoon, including a pair of back-to-back homers from Dorssys Paulino and Bobby Bradley, and later from Mike Papi and Eric Haase, as the Ducks cruised to an 11-2 win over the Bowie Baysox at Prince George's Stadium in Bowie, Maryland.
Turning Point
The RubberDucks (10-12) blew a close game open by sending 11 batters to the plate in the seventh inning, leading to a whopping, eight-run rally. Akron held a 3-1 lead entering the inning, but tore into Bowie right-hander Jesus Liranzo and lefty Jared Bradley. Tyler Krieger doubled home a run off Liranzo just ahead of a three-run homer by Paulino. Bobby Bradley followed with a tape-measure blast to right field to make it 8-1. Jared Bradley entered the game and walked Yu Chang prior to serving up back-to-back homers to Papi and Haase to make it 11-1.
Winging It
Akron starter Julian Merryweather (2-1) enjoyed another quality start. He worked six innings and held the Baysox (11-11) to one run on four hits. Merryweather walked one and struck out five. He has won his last two starts. Mitch Brown came on the scene in the seventh and allowed one run in his 1.2 innings. Neil Holland finished the final 1.1 innings, turning in his fourth straight scoreless outing.
Duck Tales
The Ducks smacked five homers in the game. Chang homered in the second inning off Bowie starter John Means (1-1) to give Akron a 1-0 lead. It was Chang's sixth of the year, which ties him for the EL lead. Krieger was 2-5, with a pair of doubles. Paulino hit in the three-hole in the Akron lineup for the first time this season. His three-run shot in the seventh was his third homer of the season.
