Thunder Take Series with 4-0 Win in Herrera's Return

In his return from the disabled list, Thunder starter Ronald Herrera delivered 5.1 shutout innings and Mike Ford drove in a pair to lead the Thunder to a 4-0 victory in front of 5,527 on Sunday afternoon at ARM & HAMMER Park.

With the shutout win, the team's fourth of the season, the Thunder earned a series win over the SeaWolves and retained the best record in the Eastern League with a 14-8 record.

Trenton's offense earned their first run in the fourth inning when Mike Ford singled in Jake Cave with a single to right field. Thairo Estrada added to the lead in the next inning against Myles Jaye with a single to score Zack Zehner. Ford and Billy McKinney combined to extend the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning when both drove in runs to make it a 4-0 lead.

Herrera took two innings to find his rhythm, but, sent down ten of the final 12 men he faced to earn a victory in his 2017 debut. Colten Brewer made his Double-A debut and fired two scoreless innings of relief, striking out one batter. J.R. Graham entered with a pair of runners on base in the eighth inning and held the line to record a five-out save.

The Thunder banged out a season-high 13 hits in the series-clinching victory. Mike Ford had three of them, including two runs driven in. Thairo Estrada, Gleyber Torres, and Zack Zehner each added two-hit games.

Your Thunder continue their homestand on Friday night at 7pm against the Sea Dogs. RHP Yefry Ramirez (0-0, 13.50) will start for the Thunder, LHP Trey Ball (0-0, 6.75) will go for Portland. The first 2,000 fans, ages six and up, will receive Thunder Magnetic Schedules presented by The Mercer County Improvement Authority.
