Altoona Curve News Release
CURVE, Pa. - The Altoona Curve scored all three of their runs in the third inning, and it was enough to beat the Harrisburg Senators, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
Altoona (13-9) took the rubber match, winning the series against Harrisburg (10-11).
Trailing 1-0 entering the bottom of the third, Alex McRae tied the game with a solo home run to left field, becoming the first Curve pitcher to hit a home run since Tim Alderson in July 2010. It was just the fifth home run hit by a Curve pitcher in the history of the franchise.
Later in the inning, Kevin Kramer ripped an RBI triple and Edwin Espinal added a run-scoring single to give Altoona a 3-1 lead. Kramer extended his on-base streak to 20 games, which is tops on the team and second in the Eastern League.
McRae (Win, 3-0) pitched a season-high seven innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits while striking out four. Miguel Rosario (Save, 1) pitched two scoreless innings to secure the win.
Jaron Long (Loss, 2-3) pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed three runs on nine hits. The Senators bullpen combined to pitch 2 1/3 scoreless innings.
Connor Joe tallied his second straight multi-hit game for Altoona, while Kramer notched his ninth multi-hit game of the season, which leads the team.
Altoona will continue the homestand on Monday with the series opener against the Richmond Flying Squirrels. Right-hander J.T. Brubaker (1-2, 5.09) will get the start for the Curve, opposite of left-hander Matt Gage (0-1, 3.00) for the Flying Squirrels. First pitch is at 6 p.m. from Peoples Natural Gas Field.
