Hartford Yard Goats News Release
Hartford, Conn- The Hartford Yard Goats were defeated by the Richmond Flying Squirrels by the score of 5-4 at Dunkin' Donuts Park on Saturday night. The game was played in front of the fourth capacity crowd in Hartford this season, 6,643. Trailing 5-0 after an inning and a half, the Yard Goats scored four times to make it a one-run game. The rally was helped by Ryan McMahon's long home run in the fifth inning into the right field porch seats. However, three Richmond relievers allowed just two hits over the final four scoreless innings for the win. The rubber game is set for Sunday afternoon as the Yard Goats try for their first home series win this season.
The Flying Squirrels scored three runs in the first inning off Yard Goats starter Parker French. All three runs scored with two outs. Dylan Davis had an RBI double bringing in the game's first run and Hunter Cole followed with a 2-run triple which went off the left field fence.
Slade Healthcott, who robbed Dillon Thomas of a home run last night, cranked his third home run, a two-run shot in the second inning to give Richmond a 5-0 lead.
The Yard Goats began their rally in the second inning, scoring their first run on a sacrifice bunt by Parker French allowing Josh Fuentes to score from third base. Hartford added a pair of runs in the fourth inning to make it a 5-3 game. Josh Fuentes had an RBI single and Omar Carrizales scored by stealing home as the Yard Goats pulled off a double steal.
Ryan McMahon blasted his fourth homer into the right field porch seats with two outs in the fifth inning to put Hartford within one run at 5-4. However, the Richmond bullpen of Carlos Alvardo, DJ Snelton and Reyes Moronta hurled four scoreless innings while recording eight strikeouts as the Flying Squirrels held on for the win.
Yard Goats relievers Konner Wade and Shane Broyles were impressive and allowed just one hit over five scoreless innings.
The Yard Goats wrap up a 3-game series and play the rubber game against the Flying Squirrels on Sunday afternoon at 1:35 PM. LHP Sam Howard will start for the Yard Goats while RHP Cory Taylor will pitch for the Flying Squirrels. The broadcast can be heard on AM 1410 or on iheart radio.
