Williamsport Crosscutters News Release

The Williamsport Crosscutters dropped their series finale versus the Staten Island Yankees Thursday night, allowing 15 hits to the visitors in a 7-5 loss.

The Yankees notched a run in the top of the first on an RBI groundout by Cody Grice to make it 1-0. They pushed the lead to 4-0 in the second inning on a two-run triple by Mason Williams and an RBI single by Cito Culver. In the third inning, Grice doubled and scored three batters later on a sacrifice fly to right to put his team ahead 5-0.

The Cutters managed to get on the board in the third, as Aaron Altherr's one-out RBI single to center plated Kyrell Hudson and made it a 5-1 game. Williamsport then used two hits and benefited from two Staten Island errors to tally three runs in a wild bottom of the fifth. Harold Martinez knocked an RBI single as part of the attack.

Staten Island increased their lead to 6-4 in the sixth, as Ali Castillo doubled and scored on a single by Williams. They added one more insurance run in the ninth, as Culver doubled, stole third, and scored on a wild pitch to make it a 7-4 game.

The Cutters went down fighting in the ninth, loading the bases and picking up one run on a sac fly by Martinez.

Williamsport hits the road Friday for three games in Maryland versus the Aberdeen Ironbirds. Every Cutters game can be heard on ESPN Radio 104.1 FM, ESPN 1050 AM, or online at crosscutters.com
