Jamestown Jammers News Release

NORWICH, Conn. - The Jamestown Jammers were shutout for the second time in three games as they fell to the Connecticut Tigers, 6-0, Thursday night at Dodd Stadium.

Brennan Smith stifled the Jamestown offense over seven scoreless frames to earn the win as he teamed with Nick Avila on a four hitter. The loss drops Jamestown to 28-26 and costs the team an opportunity to gain ground on the rest of the division.

Jamestown had several opportunities to jump out to an early lead as the leadoff batter reached in the first three innings; however, Smith worked his way out of trouble each time, including a second-and-third, one-out jam in the third.

After the Jammers failed to score for the third consecutive inning, Connecticut broke through in the bottom of the third. Eugenio Suarez singled and stole second base before coming in on a single by Tyler Collins to provide the only run the Tigers would need.

However, the Connecticut offense continued to add on with two more runs the next half inning on a leadoff homer by Dean Green and a RBI double by Suarez.

Things only got worse for the Jammers in the fifth inning. Collins ripped a RBI double then Green connected for his second homer to score another two runs and put the game out of reach.

The Jammers did not threaten the rest of the game to fall by the 6-0 margin for the second time in as many days. Ryan Goetz paced the offense with a double, while Rand Smith, Brian McConkey and Kentrell Dewitt each had a single.

Dejai Oliver took the loss for the Jammers after giving up four runs and seven hits in four innings with four strikeouts.

For Connecticut, Green did most of the damage with the two homers and three RBI, and Collins chipped in two hits with a double and two RBI.

The Jammers return home to host Lowell for three games starting Friday at 7:05 p.m. before getting two days off for the All-Star Break.
