Spikes' Freeman Added to NYPL All-Star Game

(STATE COLLEGE, PA) - State College Spikes outfielder Wes Freeman has been added to the National League affiliates' squad for the 2011 New York-Penn League All-Star Game in Lowell on Tuesday, joining Spikes catcher Samuel Gonzalez as playing members of the NL team.

Freeman has been on a tear in August, hitting .405 with one home run and eight runs batted in over the month's first ten game. The Pirates' 16th-round draft choice in 2008 is hitting .279 with a team-leading six home runs and 16 runs batted in. Freeman has also raised his average 110 points since July 17.

The Bradenton, FL native joins Gonzalez and fellow outfielder Carlos Mesa, who were each named to the NYPL Midsummer Classic on Monday, on the National League affiliates' roster. Mesa will be unable to play in the game due to injury.

The NYPL All-Star Game will be held on Tuesday, August 16 at Edward LeLacheur Park in Lowell, marking the first time the game has been held in Massachusetts.
