Florence Y'alls News Release
FLORENCE, KY - The Florence Y'alls bats put on a show on Thursday night against the Evansville Otters at Y'alls Ballpark to regain a one-game lead in the west division.
Through five innings, Florence starter Kevin Hahn was cruising. The former Frontier League Pitcher of the Week had given up just one hit and no runs. In the top of the sixth inning, the Evansville offense woke up.
The Otters tied the ballgame up with five runs, all of them with two outs in the inning on five hits. The same fortune would reach the Y'alls in the bottom half, scoring five runs, all with two outs, on just two hits. One of the hits for Florence was on a massive three-run home run off the bat of right fielder Axel Johnson, his seventh of the season.
The offensive barrage continued in the top of the seventh inning with Evansville putting up yet another five spot. Despite the lost momentum, Florence never quit.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Y'alls but together great at-bats on their way to scoring a go-ahead run without a base hit. Designated hitter Jordan Brower reached base on an error to lead off the inning which was followed by a pair of walks. Second baseman Harrison DiNicola then drove a ball into right field, deep enough for a sacrifice fly to give the Y'alls an 11-10 lead.
The Y'alls received some insurance via a two-run double off the bat of Brower in the bottom of the eighth inning to push the lead to three. That would be more than enough for closer Andrew McDonald, who recorded his fifth save of the season.
Reliever Alex Wagner earns the win to improve to 3-2 on the season and help Florence to 28-16 and first place in the Frontier League West Division. Justin Lewis is credited with the loss to fall to 2-1 and drop Evansville to 27-17.
Catcher Trevor Craport added a key game offensively, reaching base four times (three hits and a walk) and adding in three RBIs and three runs scored. The trio of RBIs brings Craport's total to 48 on the season.
