X's Explode For Eight Runs To Get Win Over Joplin

Joplin, MO - The Sioux City Explorers exploded for eight runs to get the 8-2 victory over Jopin on Tuesday night.

In the first inning, Sioux City recorded the first run of the contest. Derrick Robinson led-off with a single, advanced to second base, stole third, and scored on a sacrifice-fly to left-field for the first run.

Explorers racked up four more runs in the fourth inning. X's third baseman Tommy Mendonca knocked in two runs with a double. Bryan Johns plated a run with a sac-fly-RBI to score the tagging runner at third base. Derrick Robinson wrapped up the scoring in the fourth with an RBI double to score Mendonca.

Joplin added their first runs in the bottom of the sixth. With a runner at second and one out, Brandon Tierney smashed a two-run homer to cut the lead down to three runs.

Sioux City tacked on a couple more in the seventh. X's shortstop Nate Samson tallied a run with a base-hit single to right field. On the next at-bat, LeVon Washington's sac-fly to centerfield, scored the runner at third base.

X's first baseman Brandan Slattery extended the lead further with a solo-shot. Final score, Explorers 8, Blasters 2.

Explorers left-hander Cody Forsythe (8-4) received the victory, going six solid innings with only two runs allowed while recording five strikeouts.

Joplin's starter Luis Gonzalez (1-3) was charged with the loss, giving up five runs in six innings with six strikeouts.
