Wichita Wingnuts News Release

FARGO, N.D. - The Wichita Wingnuts evened their series with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks Tuesday night, cruising to a 10-1 victory at Newman Outdoor Field.

After both teams went down in order in the first, the Wingnuts (47-27) grabbed their first lead of the series in the second. Matt Chavez doubled to start the frame, then scored one batter later on a Harrison Kain RBI triple. Brennen Salgado doubled Wichita's lead, plating Kain with a sacrifice fly.

Wichita added four more on one play in the third. Kain hit his second triple of the night to clear the bases, then came around to score himself on a throwing error by K.D. Kang.

Christian Stringer then made it 7-0 Wingnuts, doubling Brent Dean home in the fourth.

The lead was plenty for Tim Brown (7-2), who turned in one of his best outings of the year. Through his first seven innings, the righty faced just one more than the minimum, having allowed four hits, with three runners erased on double plays.

Fargo-Moorhead (36-38) scratched across an unearned run against him in the eighth, as Ryan Wagner singled Dustin Geiger home to break the shutout.

Brown allowed just the one unearned run in his eight innings, yielding seven hits and striking out three to pick up his fifth consecutive quality start.

Wichita put an exclamation point on their victory with three more in the ninth. Salgado drove in two with a single, tying his career-high with a three-RBI night, and Dean brought home the Wingnuts 10th and final tally with a run-scoring single of his own.

The Wingnuts and RedHawks continue their three-game series Tuesday night at Newman Outdoor Field. Southpaw Todd Kibby (1-2, 6.66) will be on the hill for Wichita, while Fargo will counter with right-hander Jose Almarante (2-1, 2.78). First pitch is set for 7:02, and the game can be heard on 1410 AM KGSO, as well as on TuneIn.
