THE LEAD OFF: The Power were ousted by the Lexington Legends on Wednesday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark 4-3. After an 1:26 rain delay, the Legends raced out to the early lead with three runs in the second when Dex Kjerstad singled home a run followed by a two-RBI hit by Alexis Rivera. West Virginia pushed one across in the fifth only to have Lexington answer with a run in the seventh. The Power fought back with two in the ninth with an Erich Weiss RBI triple and a Maximo Rivera sacrifice fly, but West Virginia would fall just short. Dovydas Neverauskas was charged with the loss while Niklas Stephenson earned the win and Tim Hill tallied the save.

ARCH RIVALS: The Power have played Lexington more than any other opponent during their nine previous seasons. The cross-division rivals have played 192 times since the start of the 2005 season. West Virginia leads the all-time series 97-95, including a 7-11 record this season. The Power are 5-5 at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in 2014 and have a 57-45 all-time record at Lexington's home park.

JONES HONORED: Power shortstop JaCoby Jones was named the South Atlantic League's top shortstop on Thursday. Jones, a 2013 Pirates third-round draft pick, is hitting a team-high .292 over 114 games. Jones has mashed 22 home runs, two shy of tying the club single-season record, and has driven in 69 runs this year. Wilmer Difo of Hagerstown grabbed league MVP honors while the Suns' Lucas Giolito was tapped as top pitcher and prospect.

WELCOME BACK: The Pittsburgh Pirates activated Power shortstop JaCoby Jones from the Disabled List on Thursday. Jones was named the League's top shortstop as well on Thursday and had been on the Disabled List since August 20 with illness. To make room for Jones, the Pirates placed Adam Landecker on the Power Disabled List.

FLORIDA STATE SWEEP: Two members of West Virginia's 2013 squad were honored in the Florida State League on Tuesday night. Tyler Glasnow was named Florida State League Pitcher of the Year while Josh Bell was named the league's Player of the Year. Glasnow has posted a 12-5 record in Bradenton in 2014 with a 1.67 ERA over 118.1 innings with 148 strikeouts. Bell, currently with double-A Altoona, hit .335 in 84 games with the Marauders with nine home runs and 53 runs batted in.

LEGENDS OF THE FALL: Of eight Pittsburgh Pirates prospects named to the Arizona Fall League on Tuesday, seven are former Power players. Josh Bell, Tyler Glasnow, Elias Diaz, Dan Gamache, Nick Kingham, Tom Harlan and Joely Rodriguez were all named to the Scottsdale Scorpions roster to play with prospects from the Yankees, Mets, Giants and Phillies.

POWER PROMO UPDATE- AUGUST 29: The Power battle the second-half Southern Division champ Asheville Tourists on Saturday, August 29 at Appalachian Power Park. The first 1,000 fans will receive a Gregory Polanco bobblehead and there will be a postgame fireworks show.

POWER POINTS: The 2014 edition of the West Virginia Power is on pace to hit franchise-low number of home runs. The 2011 club played 138 games and hit 63 home runs for an average of 0.46 home runs per game. The 2014 version has 57 long balls after 131 games, putting them on pace to hit 59 out this season (on a 0.44 per game average). The 2007 club finished with a franchise-record 128 home runs over 136 games (0.94 per game).

... The West Virginia Power have seen more openings lost in 2014 due to rain than any other season in Power history. With two games cancelled due to rain over the past week, the Power have seven openings lost in 2014. West Virginia lost six in 2013, 2009, 2008 and 2006.

AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh ousted the St. Louis Cardinals 3-1 at PNC Park. Ike Davis homered for the second consecutive game to lead the way ... Indianapolis fell to Louisville 8-3... Altoona snuck past Richmond 8-7. Dan Gamache and Ramon Cabrera homered in the Curve win ... Bradenton handled Fort Myers 8-1. Felipe Gonzalez got the start going three innings and allowing just one run ... Jamestown dropped an 8-7 final to Mahoning Valley. Michael Suchy went 2-5 with a triple and 3 runs batted in.
