Charleston Dirty Birds News Release
(Charleston, WV)- The West Virginia Power bested the Lexington Legends 12-7 on Thursday evening at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in 10 innings. Kawika Emsley-Pai came through with the winning double in the tenth and Edwin Espinal drove in seven runs in the win.
Lexington took the early advantage with three runs in the second behind an Alexis Rivera RBI single. The Power, however, would come back to take the lead in the sixth when Edwin Espinal blasted a three-run home run.
The Legends answered immediately with three of their own in the bottom half of the sixth on a two-run blast from Kenny Diekroeger and a solo home run off the bat of Humberto Arteaga. West Virginia responded in the next frame with a pair on an Edwin Espinal RBI base knock.
Lexington would post tally in the seventh, however, when Diekroeger brought home the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly. Austin Meadows blasted a solo home run in the ninth with two down to tie the game and send it to extra innings. In the extra frames, Kawika Emsley-Pai came through in the tenth with a two-RBI double to give West Virginia the win followed by three more insurance runs.
Andy Otamendi (1-0) earned the win while Robinson Yambati (0-1) was charged with the loss. Edwin Espinal became the first Power player since 2009 with seven RBIs in a game.
West Virginia hosts the Asheville Tourists on Friday, August 29, at Appalachian Power Park. Buddy Borden will start against the Tourists Zach Jemiola. For tickets or more information, call 304-344-BATS or visit www.wvpower.com.
