Savannah Sand Gnats News Release

Savannah, Ga.- Behind a solid start from Robert Gsellman, the Savannah Sand Gnats defeated the Augusta GreenJackets 3-0 to snap their season-high seven-game losing streak.

The Gnats conclude the regular season with four games in Rome Friday-Monday before beginning the SAL Playoffs Wednesday in Asheville. The series shifts to Savannah for game two on Friday, and if necessary, game 3 Saturday night.

Thursday, the Gnats scored single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. In the fifth, catcher Jeff Glenn doubled and then came home on Augusta starter Robert Ramer's throwing error. In the sixth, Glenn's sacrifice fly plated rightfielder Victor Cruzado. In the seventh, centerfielder Champ Stuart doubled over the head of GreenJackets' centerfielder Randy Ortiz to bring home Patrick Biondi.

Robert Gsellman did not have a single 1-2-3 inning, but he held the GreenJackets off the scoreboard for his five innings to earn his 10th win of the season. He struck out four and walked two.

Behind Gsellman, the Gnats' bullpen combined for four innings of scoreless, hitless relief with five strikeouts.

The Gnats will begin the divisional playoffs Wednesday, September 3, against the Asheville Tourists in Asheville, N.C. The team will then return to Historic Grayson Stadium Friday, September 5, to play game two of the best-of-three series.

Fans will be able to enjoy a spectacular fireworks show after Friday's game, brought to you by Amerigroup.

The Gnats will then play a third game at home on Saturday, September 6, if necessary.
