THE LEAD OFF: West Virginia lost its second straight game, falling 4-1 to the Hickory Crawdads Thursday. The Power took a 1-0 lead in the third inning with a Reese McGuire sac fly, but the Crawdads took 2-1 advantage with a seven-batter fifth inning. Luis Marte and Michael De Leon provided back-to-back singles off Buddy Borden to tie the game and take the lead. Nomar Mazara added a two-run home run in the eighth to create some insurance. Borden took the loss while reliever Scott Williams notched the win with two scoreless innings of relief. Ryne Slack worked the final five outs for the save. JaCoby Jones had three of West Virginia's nine hits and Austin Meadows added a pair.

NEED THIS ONE: The Power have not been swept in a complete season series by any team since the 2009 season. West Virginia has lost all nine games it has played against Hickory this season. The last time a Power club was swept in a season series was from July 13 though 16 during the first year of the Pirates affiliation while playing a four game set at Augusta. West Virginia has never been swept in a season series longer than four games.

SEE YOU NEXT SUMMER: West Virginia trails the all-time series with Hickory 52-49 and has gone 19-31 at L.P. Frans Stadium since 2005.

POWER OUTAGE: The 2014 edition of the West Virginia Power is on pace to hit franchise-low number of home runs. The 2011 club played 138 games and hit 63 home runs for an average of 0.46 home runs per game. The 2014 version has 43 long balls after 102 games, putting them on pace to hit 58 out this season (0.42 per game). The 2007 club finished with a franchise-record 128 home runs over 136 games (0.94 per game).

SO CLOSE: The Power's 3-2 loss on Wednesday was the club's 23rd one-run loss this season. West Virginia is now 14-23 in one-run games, 5-10 in two-run finals, and 2-12 in games decided by three. Games decided by three runs or less account for 60% of the team's wins and 68% of their losses.

COLLINS, DIAZ AND TOPA SHELVED: On Wednesday, the Pittsburgh Pirates placed infielders Danny Collins and Chris Diaz along with pitcher Justin Topa on the Disabled List. Topa left his start on Sunday after three-and-two-thirds innings with arm discomfort while Diaz hyper-extended a knee and left after seven innings. Collins was hit in the head by a pitch on Monday evening.

FAMILIAR FACES: Francisco Aponte was promoted from Jamestown and returns to West Virginia after spending portions of the last two seasons with the Power. Jared Lakind was also promoted from Jamestown and will move into the Power bullpen for the second time this season.

WELCOME TO THE FRAY: Maximo Rivera was promoted to West Virginia from Bristol on Wednesday to fill the other vacant roster spot. Rivera, signed by Pittsburgh as a non-drafted free agent in 2009, was batting .310 for the Bristol Pirates over 19 games with one home run and five runs batted in.

PROMO UPDATE- AUGUST 2: The Power battle the Lexington Legends on Saturday, August 2 at Appalachian Power Park for Football Night. BirdZerk will perform during the game and the first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a six-pack cooler sling.

POWER POINTS: Austin Meadows now has a hitting streak at eight straight after a pair of doubles on Thursday... Michael Fransoso and Reese McGuire each had their five game hitting streaks stopped last night...

AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh was idle on Thursday and starts a three game series at Coors Field against the Colorado Rockies tonight... Indianapolis fell 9-2 to Charlotte.
