Asheville Tourists News Release

Asheville, NC-- The Asheville Tourists dropped their series rubber match with the Greensboro Grasshoppers 7-1 on Friday night. The Tourists have now lost both series this season to the 'Hoppers. Both teams waited out a 1:42 rain delay but when they took the field, it was the visitors who struck early.

In the top of the first inning, Greensboro pounded out four runs on five hits and sent eight men to the plate. JT Riddle and Austin Barnes hit back-to-back singles to lead off the frame. Two batters later, Felix Munoz singled to load the bases. Juan Avila then doubled home a pair making it 2-0.

Kentrell DeWitt hit a sacrifice fly to plate Munoz and Joel Jimenez capped the rally with an RBI single to right.

Domingo German pitched the first three innings for the Grasshoppers and did not allow a run.

The right-hander was spelled in the fourth in favor of Ramon Del Orbe who worked all the way through the eighth.

Carlos Lopez made it a 6-0 game by doubling home two runs in the top of the fourth. Asheville's lone run came on a solo Home Run by Max White in the fifth. Greensboro added one more in the sixth.

Johendi Jiminian suffered the loss as the Tourists righty surrendered seven runs on 11 hits.

Asheville's Ryan McMahon recorded his 100th hit of the season with a first-inning single and Michael Benjamin extended his hitting streak to 11 straight games with a single in the third. The Tourists next welcome the Charleston RiverDogs on Saturday evening with the first pitch scheduled for 6:05pm.
