Charleston Completes Sweep with 6-1 Win over Legends

(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.)_ The Charleston RiverDogs completed a three-game sweep over the Lexington Legends with a 6-1 victory Friday night. The loss extended the Legends' losing streak to eight games.

Charleston scored a run in the first inning when Miguel Andujar's two-out single scored Mark Payton, who had led off the inning with a single.

Andujar's two-run homer in the third inning gave the RiverDogs a 3-0 lead. They added a run in the fourth when Brandon Thomas singled with two outs and scored on a double by Payton.

In the top of the fifth, Tyler Wade doubled, went to third on an infield out and scored when Michael O'Neill's ground ball got past shortstop Humberto Arteaga for an error. O'Neill stole second, continued to third on catcher Frank Schwindel's throwing error and scored on a sacrifice fly by Eduardo de Oleo, putting Charleston up 6-0.

The Legends scored their only run in the eighth inning. Carlos Garcia, who had extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a third-inning double, led off the eighth with a single. Kenny Diekroeger reached first when de Oleo, the catcher, allowed Diekroeger's pop fly to drop in fair territory near home plate. Garcia stole third, and after Schwindel struck out, Mauricio Ramos singled to right field, scoring Garcia.

Charleston starter Chaz Hebert (1-2) got the win. He pitched five and two-thirds innings and allowed three hits and no runs. Legends starter Luke Farrell (1-9) took the loss.

The Legends open a five-game series with Savannah Saturday night. Game time is 7 p.m.

Sunday's start time is 6:05 p.m. A doubleheader has been scheduled for Monday night due to a rainout July 21 in Savannah. The first of two seven-inning games will begin at 5:05 p.m. Monday. The series will wrap up with a 7:05 p.m. game Tuesday.
