Legends to Wear Jerseys Designed by Contest Winner August 9
July 25, 2014 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Lexington Legends News Release
(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) Lexington Legends players will display a new look when they take the field at Whitaker Bank Ballpark for their game Saturday, August 9 against Greenville. The Legends will be wearing jerseys designed by nine-year-old Ryder McConathy of Lexington, who won the Create-A-Jersey contest presented by Moe's Southwest Grill and Zaxby's.
"This has been a fun contest for the Legends to hold," said Sarah Bosso, director of community relations and special events. "We received hundreds of 'stache-tastic' designs and works of art from kids across Central Kentucky. It was a difficult choice, but Ryder's design gave a baseball jersey the look of a horse racing jockey silk, and used the Legends colors perfectly. It was a nice tie-in for being in horse country. He did a wonderful job."
The jerseys will be sold at auction during the game, with all proceeds benefiting The Nest Center for Women, Children and Families, which provides free counseling, parent education, emergency childcare and basic supplies for families in crisis. More information is available at www.thenestlexington.org.
The Legends will also recognize three runners-up in the contest - eight-year-old Carter Harris of Shelbyville; 10-year-old Nolan Flannery of Northern Kentucky; and 13-year-old Seth Little of Rowan County. Their designs will be displayed on the video board during the August 9 game.
As the winner, Ryder will receive free food from Moe's for a year, free food from Zaxby's for a year, and a personalized jersey with the winning design. He will also take part in a meet-and-greet and autograph session with the Legends in their dugout, and will throw a ceremonial first pitch before the game.
As part of pre-game ceremonies, the runners-up will each be presented with certificates good for $50 in free food from Moe's and $50 in free food from Zaxby's. They also will be part of the meet-and-greet and autograph session with the Legends in the dugout.
Game time August 9 is 7:05 p.m. For ticket information, call 859 422-7867 or go to www.lexingtonlegends.com.
