THE LEAD OFF: West Virginia lost 13-2 on Friday night to Hagerstown. The Suns scored three in the top of the second inning to build a lead the Power could not overcome. Hagerstown added two in the fourth, four in the fifth, one in the seventh, and three in the eighth. West Virginia was held to two runs on two hits and committed four errors in the defeat. Max Moroff and Josh Bell had the only hits and runs batted in for the Power. Joely Rodriguez took the loss after allowing nine runs on eight hits over four and two-thirds.
ERRORS ADDING UP: West Virginia has committed 42 errors this season, the most of any club in Minor League Baseball. The Power averaging 2.625 errors per game. Delmarva has committed the second most errors in the league with 28 through 16 games, but sit in first place in the division with ten wins. Rancho Cucamonga in the California League has the second most errors in the minors with 31 and Bradenton is third with 30. 2012 SAL All-Star Alen Hanson has committed 12 errors, the most of any player in Minor League Baseball.
HERE COME THE SUNS: West Virginia and Hagerstown will meet a total of 10 times this season. The Power trail in the all-time series 58-54, but do have a winning record at home against the Suns since 2005 with 28 wins in 51 games. The two clubs will meet again in Charleston in early June and only play each other three times during the second half, from July 1-3 at Municipal Stadium in Hagerstown,
BIG 12 COMES TO POWER: Texas Tech product Barrett Barnes was added to the Power roster on Thursday from the GCL Pirates roster. Barnes was selected with the 45th over pick in the 2012 draft and played in 38 New York-Penn League games last summer, batting .288 with five home runs and 24 runs batted in. The outfielder is rated by Baseball America as the ninth best prospect in the Pirates organization.
COUNTER MOVE: When Barrett Barnes was added to the Power roster on Thursday, Pittsburgh promoted outfielder Junior Sosa to Bradenton. Sosa split 2012 between the Power and Marauders rosters and had played in 12 of the 14 West Virginia games this season, batting .256 with no home runs and four runs batted.
ALLIE HONORED BY SAL: On Monday, the South Atlantic League announced its' first Player-of-the-Week award for the time period from April 4-14 and Stetson Allie was honored for his work during that span. Allie batted .396 with a league-best five home runs and 16 runs batted in. The infielder is the only player on the club and one of 22 in the league to have played in all 14 of his team's games this season.
CHASING 300: West Virginia remains just six wins away from reaching 300 home victories. The franchise holds a current mark of 294-268 at Appalachian Power Park including both regular season and playoff contests.
PROMO UPDATE- MAY 18: The Power will host their annual WVU night on May 18 against Lexington. The first 1,000 fans through the gate will receive a Geno Smith bobblehead. All fans will have the chance to meet and greet Kevin Jones, Truck Bryant, and Da'Sean Butler. WVU Night is present by the WV Army National Guard.
POWER POINTS: Only five of Friday's 13 runs allowed were earned, so West Virginia's staff ERA dropped from 5.33 to 5.31... Max Moroff's single in the third inning extended his on-base streak to 13 games while Dilson Herrera and Stetson Allie each had their on-base streaks stopped at the same number... Eric Wood's hitting streak was snapped at six games by going 0-3 Friday. Wood batted .444 with three home runs and eight runs batted in during the streak... Raul Fortunato has hit into five double plays this season, most of any player in the league.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh beat Atlanta 6-0. Pedro Alvarez homered for the second straight day as the Pirates sent the Braves to their first road loss of the year... Indianapolis beat Louisville 4-1. Altoona's game at Harrisburg was rained out and the team's will play two tonight... Bradenton walked-off with a 6-5 win over Palm Beach. Alen Hanson tripled in Elias Diaz for the winning run in the bottom of the ninth.
