
Grasshoppers Pitching Keys 5-3 Win

Salisbury, Md. - The Greensboro Grasshoppers (10-7) held the Delmarva Shorebirds (10-7) scoreless over the final four innings to take game three of the series, 5-3, at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium on Saturday night in front of 6,945 fans. The Grasshoppers have a two games to one lead in the series.
Greensboro cracked the scoreboard first in the second inning. The first three batters of the inning reached on two walks and a hit. Then, Tony Caldwell was hit by a pitch to force in Jesus Solorzano. Juancito Martinez then grounded to first with the bases loaded to bring in Matt Juengel.
The Shorebirds responded with a run in the bottom of the second. Creede Simpson drew a one out walk and later scored on a two out single to left-center field by Nik Balog.
Greensboro increased the lead to 5-1 with a three-run fifth inning. Anthony Gomez reached on an error by Creede Simpson. Yordy Cabrera followed with a walk. With the bases loaded, Jesus Solorzano singled to right to score two runs. The next batter, Juengel, hit a sacrifice fly to right field to stretch the lead to 5-1.
The Shorebirds cut into the deficit in the bottom of the fifth. Anthony Vega drew a lead off walk. Two batters later, Joel Hutter doubled to the right field corner to send Vega to third. He scored on a wild pitch. Christian Walker then grounded out to second to score Hutter.
Neither team scored over the final four innings.
Shorebirds starter Josh Hader was pinned with the loss over five innings. He yielded five hits and three earned runs.
Greensboro reliever Chipper Smith, who struck out five batters over 2.2 innings pitched, earned the win.
Miguel Chalas tossed four scoreless innings of relief for the Shorebirds. He allowed two hits.
Hutter was the only Shorebirds player with multiple hits.
The Shorebirds conclude the homestand with the finale against Greensboro on Sunday, April 21 at 2:05pm. RHP Brady Wager is the scheduled starter for Delmarva.
