Augusta GreenJackets News Release

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Three times this season, theGreenJackets have overcame an early deficit to win the game. But unfortunately for Augusta (10-5), it couldn't pull out the win on Friday against Kannapolis (8-8), losing 3-2 at Lake Olmstead Stadium.

The GreenJackets trailed for a majority of the game. The Intimidators' Micah Johnson hit a triple to center field on the very first pitch of the game. Shortly after, center fielder AdamHeisler drove in Johnson on a single to center field to make it 1-0 Kannapolis.

The Intimidators' second run of the night came in the top of the seventh. Jason Coats doubled to center, moved to third on a single by Yoandy Barroso and scored when Michael Marjamagrounded out to shortstop.

But in the bottom of the eighth, the GreenJackets looked like they would once again overcome an early deficit.

With right fielder Chuckie Jones on first base, catcher EricSim hit a double to deep center to score Jones.

After left fielder Andrew Cain used a sacrifice bunt to move Sim to third, third baseman Travious Relaford singled on a ground ball to second base, bringing in the tying run.

However, the game wasn't tied for much longer.

Kannapolis' Rangel Ravelo started the ninth inning with a line-drive single to right field. Coats moved Ravelo over to second with a sacrifice bunt, and then Barroso hit a single to center to plate the winning run.

The GreenJackets' 3-2 loss snaps a four-game winning streak, which started with a 7-3 win against the Lexington Legends on Monday. Despite the loss, Augusta remains in sole possession of first place in the Southern Division with a 1.5game lead.

The GreenJackets will play a doubleheader tomorrow against the Intimidators. The first game starts at 1:05 p.m. with gates opening at 12:30 p.m. The second game will follow 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first one.
