THE LEAD OFF: West Virginia suffered its second straight loss to the Rome Braves, this time by a 5-4 final on Saturday night at State Mutual Stadium. Colten Brewer surrendered three runs (two earned) over the first two innings but settled down to retire 11 of the final 13 batters he faced in the game. Offensively, West Virginia scored a run in the top of the second on a fielding error and got two in the fourth thanks to a wild pitch and an Elvis Escobar RBI single. With the game tied at three, Rome put the Power away thanks to a Jordan Edgerton two-run shot off Julio Vivas in the eighth inning with two outs. The Power got one back in the ninth but finished the game with eight men left on base.

WHEN IN ROME...: The Power and Braves conclude their only series of the year this afternoon at State Mutual Stadium.. Last year, the two clubs played 11 games with the Power winning the season series 7-4. The Power are 22-20 all-time against the Atlanta Braves Class-A affiliate and haven't lost a season series to the Braves since 2009. The Power are currently being outscored in this series 23-12.

DESTINY IN OUR HANDS: West Virginia has 14 games remaining in the first half and are currently 2.5 games behind the Hickory Crawdads, who lost last night to Lakewood, for first place in the division. If West Virginia wins all of the remaining games this half they will guarantee a postseason berth for the first time since 2013. The Power and Crawdads will meet for a three-game series at Appalachian Power Park to conclude the first half.

HOP ABOARD: In the series finale this afternoon, the Power will send RHP Austin Coley to the mound. The right hander was one of the top pitchers in the South Atlantic League for the first month-and-a-half of the season with a 5-1 record and a 2.25 ERA in his first six starts. Since then, Coley is 1-3 with a 5.56 ERA in four starts. The Tennessee native 1-3 with a 6.10 ERA when pitching away from Appalachian Power Park.

SET THE (ESCO)BAR HIGH: Elvis Escobar leads the Power with a .288 batting average this season. Since May 1st, Escobar has the best batting average among all Power hitters at .299 (40-for-134).

SELFLESSNESS: Sacrifice bunts have been a key part of West Virginia's offense through the first 55 games of the season. The Power have laid down 41 total sacrifice bunts this season, the most in affiliated baseball. The 2015 Power are on pace to register 104 sacrifice bunts this year. Pablo Reyes and Tito Polo lead the team with seven sacrifice bunts while Cole Tucker has six.

SU-CHY TO THE GAME: West Virginia right fielder Michael Suchy went 0-for-2 yesterday with two walks to extend his on-base streak to eight games. However, the hitless game ended his seven-game streak of seven games with a hit. During his hit streak, Suchy hit .482 (13-for-27) and had five straight multi-hit games to start this streak. The hit streak was Suchy's longest of 2015 and also matched with the longest in his career.
