Hickory Tops Claws 5-3 on Sunday at FirstEnergy Park

LAKEWOOD, NJ - Ariel Jurado improved to 8-0, throwing five scoreless innings with six strikeouts as Hickory topped the BlueClaws 5-3 on Sunday afternoon at FirstEnergy Park.

The teams split their four-game series, with the BlueClaws falling to 27-27 and Hickory improving to 36-21 on the season.

Jurado, who is one of four pitchers in the minors with at least eight wins, has not allowed an earned run in his last 22 innings.

Hickory scored once in the first on an SAC fly by Luke Tendler and they added a run in th esecond on a solo home run by Jose Cardona, his 6th home run of the season. The Crawdads added two in the third on an RBI triple by Marcus Greene and an RBI single by Kevin Torres to go up 4-0. They took a 5-0 lead in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Eduard Pinto.

BlueClaws starter Ricardo Pinto came out after allowing five runs in four innings, his shortest outing of the season. Austin Davis and Manaure Martinez each threw two scoreless innings for Lakewood and Matt Hockenberry threw a scoreless 9th.

Cord Sandberg went 2-4, his 9th multi-hit game of the season.

The BlueClaws now head to Lexington and they will open a three-game series against the Legends on Tuesday. LHP Josh Taylor (2-4) starts for Lakewood against RHP Zach Lovorn (4-4).
