Gnats Complete Sweep of Drive 3-1 Sunday

Savannah, GA - The Savannah Sand Gnats edged the Greenville Drive 3-1 on a hot Sunday afternoon to finish off a sweep of the Drive and move within one game of first place.

With an off day on Monday, the Gnats (30-27) are finishing up an impressive run of baseball. The team has won six straight games, 17 of the last 22 and 22 of the last 33 contests. For the first time in the 2015 season, the Gnats are three games over .500.

The first place Greenville Drive (31-26) have lost six straight.

The Gnats scored single runs in the second, third and fourth innings and Brad Wieck and two relievers made it stand up. In the second, catcher Tomas Nido tripled down the left field line to chase home first baseman Jon Leroux from first. In the fourth, Nido singled into left field on a hit-and-run to bring home third baseman Eudor Garcia.

Wreck finished seven innings for this first time as a professional. He struck out 10 and walked one. David Roseboom worked a scoreless eighth while Jimmy Duff took care of the ninth for his fourth save of 2015.        

The Sand Gnats will take their six-game winning-streak on the road to West Virginia on Tuesday, June 9th @ 7:05 PM. Savannah will start RHP Casey Meisner (5-1, 1.88) in game one, while the Power will send RHP Yeudy Garcia (4-3, 1.91) to the mound. The Sand Gnats return home on June 16th to take on the Asheville Tourists at 7:05 PM.
