
Shorebirds use two big innings to beat Iâ??s

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (June 7, 2015)- The Delmarva Shorebirds used the fourth and ninth innings to score nine runs and beat the Intimidators, 9-1, Sunday at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System. The 3-1 series loss to Delmarva is the first series loss for Kannapolis since May 20.
Zach Thompson held the 'Birds scoreless through the first three innings in his Intimidators debut, but the righty stumbled in the fourth. Thompson was charged with the loss (0-1), allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits while walking one and striking out four over 4.0 innings.
Cameron Kneeland led the 'Birds by going 3-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored. While Elier Leyva chipped in two hits and two RBI.
In the fourth, Delmarva used three extra-base hits and an error to take a 4-0 lead.
In the home half of the seventh, Kannapolis scored its first run to make it 4-1. Louie Lechich singled, and Alexander Simon doubled. With runners on second and third, Nick Basto flew out to deep left field, scoring Lechich on a sacrifice fly.
In the ninth inning, Delmarva put the game away. With bases loaded, Kneeland tripled to left-center field, giving the Shorebirds a 7-1 lead. Three singles later, Delmarva added two more runs to complete a five-run frame.
Josh Walker earned the win (1-0) by working 5.0 innings, allowing no runs, two hits while striking out three.
Brad Salgado worked a 3.0 stellar innings of relief, allowing no runs and no hits while walking two and striking out a season-high five. David Trexler worked two innings, allowing five runs on four hits, while walking two and striking out two.
The Intimidators are off Monday before they begin a 3-game series Tuesday against the Greensboro Grasshoppers at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System. Right-hander Spencer Adams (2-3, 3.64) gets the start against Greensboro southpaw Michael Mader (3-6. 5.29).
