
Wright tosses 7 strong IP in Trenton's 4-1 win over Connecticut

(Trenton, NJ)- 1B Cody Ehlers hit a two-run home run in the 8th inning as the Thunder scored three runs to break a 1-1 tie, and go on for a 4-1 win over Connecticut on Tuesday Night at Thomas Dodd Memorial Stadium in Norwich, CT.
Tied 1-1 in the 8th inning, the Thunder broke free to take control of the game. LF Colin Curtis reached on an infield hit to start the 8th inning and advanced to second on a throwing error by 3B Dave Maroul. RF Matt Carson then brought home the go-ahead run on an error by 2B Travis Denker to give the Thunder a 2-1 lead. 1B Cody Ehlers followed with a two-run home run for his fifth home run of the season to increase the lead to 4-1. Connecticut reliever Ronnie Ray (2-1) took the loss as he allowed all three runs (two earned) in the 8th inning. The loss negated six shuout innings tossed by Connecticut starting pitcher Joey Martinez. Martinez struck out six and did not walk a batter for a no-decision..
Thunder starting pitcher Chase Wright (4-1) went 7 IP and gave up 4 H and 1 ER to pick up the win. He struck out 4 and walked 1. Wright retired the first 11 batters he faced before allowing a two-out single in the 4th inning. Thunder reliever Michael Gardner protected the lead as he pitched the final two innings for his third save of the season. Gardner gave up only 1 H and struck out 2. He did not walk a batter. Trenton is now 16-10.
Connecticut (11-13) took a 1-0 lead in the 6th inning on a fielder choice by 1B Travis Ishikawa. Trenton (16-10) tied the game in the top of the 7th inning on a bases loaded RBI walk by DH Carlos Mendoza.
Trenton and Connecticut will play the middle game of the three-game series on Wednesday night at 6:35 p.m. RHP George Kontos (0-2, 3.55) will start for Trenton against Connecticut LHP Paul Oseguera (0-0, 0.00).
