A Well-Earned Rest...The Aeros enjoyed their first scheduled off day yesterday following Sunday afternoon's 4-2 victory over Harrisburg. Akron claimed the final two contests of the four-game set to earn a split after being pummeled the first two nights. Sunday the Aeros took an early lead and starter Frank Herrmann made sure it held up, holding a pretty potent Senators offense to a single run over the course of six innings to earn his team-leading third win of the season. All nine hitters in the Akron lineup reached base meanwhile, with 2B Josh Rodriguez and 3B Wes Hodges contributing two hits apiece.
A Whole New Ballgame...The final two games of the Harrisburg series were in stark contrast to the first two, as Akron tightened things up both on the mound and in the field. The Senators pounded out a borderline-obscene total of 27 runs and 27 hits in the first two games, but in the final pair of games Harrisburg mustered only three runs and 13 hits. The Aeros also played excellent defense the final two games, at one point going more than 13 straight innings without committing an error on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
Still Streaking...CF Jose Constanza continued his impressive play at the plate Sunday, driving a seventh-inning double to extend his hitting streak to five games. Constanza is hitting .550 (11-20) over his streak, with four extra-base hits and four multi-hit games. He has also hit safely in eight of his last nine games and has raised his average 142 points in a week-and-a-half, from .089 on April 16th to his current high-water mark of .231 entering play tonight. DH Michael Aubrey is also seeing the ball well with a five-game hitting streak of his own, and it's already his third hitting streak of at least five games this season. He opened the year with a nine-game hitting streak, went 0-4 April 14th, hit in five more games, went 0-4 last Monday in Altoona, and then started his current run in game two of the series with the Curve. Aubrey has also hit in six straight home games.
Gim Class...Aeros C Chris Gimenez is off to a fast start this season, having reached base at least once in all 15 games he's played this season. The native of Gilroy, CA leads the league with a .476 on-base percentage and has already drawn 17 walks against just 11 strikeouts this year.
A Shameless Plug...For those who want more on Gimenez and teammate Shawn Nottingham, check out this week's Big Time Sports with Charlie Jones. The two, along with a special guest, were interviewed this morning for a show which will air at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and 8:30 a.m. Saturday on digital channel 585 in Akron/Canton and channel 21 in Massillon.
