Early Rallies More Than Enough For Rock Cats

Jake Ruckle allowed five runs in the first two innings and the New Britain Rock Cats never trailed in a 7-1 win over the Binghamton Mets at NYSEG Stadium Tuesday. The loss is Binghamton's season-high-tying fourth in a row.

The first six New Britain (11-12) batters got hits in the first off Ruckle with Brock Peterson, Matt Moses, David Winfree and Erik Lis picking up RBIs for a 4-0 Rock Cats lead.

The B-Mets (10-15) got a run back in the bottom of the first. Emmanuel Garcia drew a leadoff walk off Oswaldo Sosa (1-2) before Fernando Martinez singled him to second. After both runners advanced a base on a wild pitch, Nick Evans grounded out, scoring Garcia and cutting New Britain's lead to 4-1.

The Rock Cats tacked on another in the second on Peterson's RBI single to make it 5-1. Ruckle (1-2) then settled down, allowing one hit the rest of the way before departing after seven innings of work. New Britain added two more in the eighth when Peterson scored on a wild pitch and Trevor Plouffe doubled in a run.

Tuesday, the B-Mets start play the second game of a three-game series against the New Britain Rock Cats. Lefty Jonathon Niese (2-1, 0.71) will start for Binghamton against Yohan Pino (0-1, 1.35) of New Britain. The first pitch is slated for 6:35 p.m. at NYSEG Stadium with the radio broadcast beginning at 6:20 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.

Notes: Dating back to the seventh inning Fri. @ POR, the B-Mets have scored two runs over their last 30 innings, with Evans driving both of them in...Ruckle is the first B-Mets starting pitcher this season to last into the seventh inning...Binghamton also lost four in a row 4/17-20.
