Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Las Vegas, Nev. - It was a record-breaking game at Orleans Arena tonight as the Las Vegas Wranglers took an early lead and never looked back, defeating the Colorado Eagles 9-3 and breaking all-time records in the process.
The Colorado Eagles notched the first goal of the night after forward Akim Aliu scored 4:12 into the first period with assists from forward Tommy Maxwell and defenseman Aaron Schneekloth. Eric Lampe, the Wranglers' leading scorer, answered back with his first goal of the night at the 13:39 mark and, with an assist from forward Pete MacArthur, tied the game up 1-1. Only 25 seconds later, forward Robbie Smith tallied his first goal of the season with an assist from defenseman Channing Boe and gave the Wranglers a 2-1 lead. Lampe picked up another goal at the 15:28 mark with assists from MacArthur and defenseman Judd Blackwater and left the Wranglers up 3-1 at the end of the first.
Just 56 seconds into the second period, Lampe collected his first hat trick as a Wranglers player with assists once again from MacArthur and Blackwater and brought Las Vegas up 4-1. Colorado forward Jack Combs got a short-handed goal in on Wranglers goaltender Joe Fallon moments later, making the score 4-2 at 5:16 in the second period. A minute later, Blackwater picked up his first power play goal of the night with help from defenseman Barry Goers and Lampe, and another power play goal from forward Scott Campbell three minutes later had the Wranglers up 6-2 with 10:27 left in the second period. Campbell was assisted by defenseman Adam Miller and Lampe. Colorado forward Riley Nelson netted a goal with Combs and forward Chad Costello on the assists at the 13:50 mark of the second to bring the Eagles to a 6-3 disadvantage. Two minutes later, though, Lampe earned his fourth goal of the night with assists from Blackwater and MacArthur to break the Wranglers' all-time record of most goals scored in a game which was previously set at three. At the end of the second period, Las Vegas remained in the lead 7-3.
Fallon held the Eagles to a scoreless third period while Blackwater secured his second goal of the night 3:02 into the final. He was assisted by defenseman Jeff May and Lampe, who broke his second record of the night by notching six points in a single game, which was previously held by Miller after earning five points in a Wranglers game last season. With the score at 8-3 in favor of Las Vegas, Miller picked up the final goal of the night at the 16:51 mark with forward Ned Lukacevic on the assist. The Wranglers got the home win with a final score of 9-3.
The Wranglers hit the road to face the Idaho Steelheads for the first time this season in a three-game series. The full box score of tonight's game can be found here .
