Trenton Titans News Release

WHEELING, W.Va. - Over the years, the Wheeling Nailers have had a lot of success. That continued vs. the Titans Saturday night before 2,260 at WesBanco Arena, recording their 800th franchise win.

ECHL Atlantic Division-leading Wheeling (5-0-0-10) remained unbeaten by notching its fifth successive win, handing the Trenton Titans (1-6-0-2) their sixth loss in seven games by a 6-4 score.

Chris Barton notched a hat trick, scoring two on the power play, while former Trenton Devil Matt Lombardi scored a pair of goals. Devin DiDiomete notched an empty-net goal.

Barton's first power-play goal at 13:22 of the first period gave Wheeling a 1-0 lead. Lombardi then scored his first of the night on a bouncer with 1:04 remaining to give the Nailers a 2-0 lead.

The Titans, however, playing another strong second period, tied matters at 2-2 on Tyler Hostetter's power-play goal at 5:41 of the second and Andy Bohmbach's team-leading sixth, also with the man-advantage, at 10:33.

Momentum, however, swung back to the Nailers on Lombardi's second goal at 17:06 that gave the home team a 3-2 advantage after two periods.

Wheeling took command by scoring the first two goals of the third period - Barton netting both, at 6:58 and 10:04, the latter a power-play goal, to give Wheeling a 5-2 lead. Trenton's Jordan Pietrus scored his first of the year at 16:33, but DiDiomete recorded an empty-netter at 18:48 before Eric Baier, who had an all-around strong game, scored with 41 seconds remaining.

The Titans will have nearly a week to regroup, hosting Elmira at 7 p.m. Friday at the Sun National Bank Center.
