Chicago Express News Release

Hoffman Estates, IL - The Chicago Express, proud member of the ECHL and proud affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, registered the first shutout in Express history with a 2-0 victory over the Toledo Walleye on Saturday night at the Sears Centre Arena. G Paul Dainton earned the shutout with a 27 save effort.

A rough-and-tumble first period saw good scoring chances both ways, until a shorthanded goal put the Express on the board. At 17:23, F Chaz Johnson intercepted a pass and put home a shorthanded goal, his first on the season, putting the Express up 1-0. Chicago came out firing and held a 10-5 shot advantage after the first period.

Johnson, who was seemingly everywhere on the ice, got involved early on in the second period again at 6:26 when he fired a pass to D Josh Burrows whose quick shot was deflected by F Pierre-Luc Faubert into the net for his third goal of the season. The goal put Chicago ahead 2-0. The Express limited Toledo to just 12 shots through two periods.

Chicago F Bobby Robins and Toledo D Justin Pender got the crowd pumped up just 1:21 into the third period with during an extended fight in the neutral zone. It didn't matter what the Walleye were throwing at the Express, however, as Chicago's Dainton stopped all 27 shots-on-goal in his Express debut to help his team win 2-0. It was Dainton's first start in goal for Chicago after being assigned from Springfield (AHL).
