Jackals Fall to Stingrays, 5-3

The Elmira Jackals dropped a 5-3 decision to the South Carolina Stingrays on Saturday night at First Arena. South Carolina scored three times on the power play as the Jackals fell for the third-straight game.

Matt Pope drove a puck in on the doorstep past Elmira goaltender Timo Pielmeier at 10:59 of the first period to put the Stingrays up 1-0 on the power play. The first-year Stingray extended the lead to 2-0 with another man-advantage goal at 14:17, sending a puck in on the doorstep.

Evan Barlow lifted a puck in from the right goal line for a Jackals power-play tally at 3:12 of the second period to bring Elmira to within a goal, 2-1.

David de Kastrozza capitalized on a Jackals turnover at 13:32 of the second, snapping a puck in from the right circle to extend South Carolina's advantage to 3-1.

Billy Ryan banked a puck in from the left goal line at 3:46 of the third period to put South Carolina up by three, 4-1, with another power-play goal.

Artem Demkov took a loose puck at center and blasted it past Stingrays goaltender Philipp Grubauer from the right circle for his sixth goal in as many games, narrowing South Carolina's lead to 4-2 at 5:16 of the third.

Maxime Gratchev emerged on a short-handed breakaway at 9:39 and deked Grubauer backhand, forehand and beat the rookie netminder to make it a one-goal game, 4-3.

Trent Campbell backhanded a puck in at 18:59 of the final frame to seal the victory for South Carolina.

Pielmeier fell to 2-2 with a 26-save outing. Grubauer upped his record to 3-0, as the Stingrays finished their five-game road trip with four-straight victories.
