
Ryan Nets Two in Victory Over Jackals

Elmira, NY - Forward Billy Ryan scored two goals and Matt Pope added two points (1g, 1a) as the South Carolina Stingrays (5-2-0-0) toppled the Elmira Jackals (3-3-0-0) 5-3 at First Arena Saturday night.
A night after going 4-for-14 on the power play, the Stingrays broke open the scoring with a man-advantage marker from Pope at 10:59 of the first period firing a rebound past Jackals goaltender Timo Pielmeier (L, 26 saves on 31 shots). Forward Danick Paquette picked up the assist on Pope's fourth goal of the season. Moments later, Ryan made it a 2-0 Stingrays lead on the power play at 14:17 from forwards Sean Dolan and Pope.
The Jackals cut the lead in half early in the second period with a power-play goal from Artem Demkov at 3:12 from defenseman Craig Rivet. Stingrays forward David de Kastrozza made it 3-1 late in the frame lifting a shot over the glove of Pielmeier from the bottom of the right-wing circle. Forward Anthony Maiani recorded the assist.
Ryan made it a three-goal lead for the Stingrays on the power play at 3:46 of the third period from Dolan. The Jackals answered back with two quick tallies to pull the game within one. Demkov blasted a shot from the top of the right-wing circle past Stingrays netminder Philipp Grubauer (W, 29 saves on 32 shots) at 5:16. Demkov's seventh goal of the season was unassisted. Forward Maxim Gratchev capitalized on a shorthanded breakaway to make it 4-3 at 9:39. Stingrays forward Trent Campbell silenced the crowd with a late tally at 18:59 to seal the victory. Defenseman Phil Oreskovic and de Kastrozza registered assists. The Stingrays wrapped up the night going 3-for-5 on the power play while Elmira fisnished 1-for-6.
