Wranglers Named Best Local Sports Team and Best Coach by Review-Journal
April 1, 2009 - ECHL (ECHL)
Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Stockton, CA - The Las Vegas Wranglers announced today the team was named to the Las Vegas Review-Journal 2009 "Best of Las Vegas" for local sports team and local sports coach.
The Review-Journal staff selected the Wranglers as the 2009 Best Local Sports Team. It marks the fourth time in six seasons the Wranglers have been given the honor of the best sports team in town.
"They may lack teeth, not but not talent," stated the local paper. "Smash mouth hockey is never good for the gum lines, but this bunch is still smilin' wide. They're the first team in the history of the ECHL to notch three straight 100 point seasons, and last go 'round, they made it to the Kelly Cup finals for the first time. "
For the second time in the last three years, the RJ staff selected Las Vegas Wranglers Head Coach and General Manager Glen Gulutzan as the best local sports coach.
"To our ears, "hockey in the desert" still qualifies as an oxymoron, right up there with such classic examples as "jumbo shrimp," wrote the Review-Journal. "Yet Wranglers coach Glen Gulutzan keeps making believers out of us, taking his ECHL team to three consecutive Kelly Cup Playoffs."
Las Vegas will conclude the regular season on Friday, April 3rd and Saturday April 4th, hosting the Stockton Thunder at 7:30 PM both nights.
Playoff strip packages are available immediately at (702) 471-7825 (PUCK).
2009-10 season seat packages are on sale now at (702) 471-PUCK. The Wranglers play all 36 regular season home games at the Orleans Arena, located at the Orleans Hotel and Casino at 4500 W. Tropicana Avenue. Individual game tickets are on sale now at (702) 284-7777.
