Royals' Ben Gordon Selected as In Glas Co ECHL Player of the Week

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League and Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that forward Ben Gordon has been selected as the In Glas Co ECHL Player of the Week for March 23-29, 2009. The twenty-four year old first year pro, registered six points (2g-4a=6pts) in three games for the Royals last week. Gordon is the eighth Royal in the eight year history of the team to receive the Player of the Week Award.

Gordon, who hails from International Falls, Minnesota, scored the game winning goal and picked up an assist in the Royals' 4-1 win over the Elmira Jackals last Wednesday (March 25). Gordon followed that game with his fifth multi-point performance in just nine games played for Reading this year, when he scored a goal and picked up an assist in Reading's 6-4 loss to Johnstown last Friday. On Sunday, Gordon extended what is currently a seven game point streak (4g-8a)-and a six game assist streak (8a)-by registering an assist on the game's first goal in Reading's 2-1 win over Johnstown.

Gordon, who played college hockey at the University of Minnesota, has racked up fourteen points (4g-10a) and played to a plus-5 (+5) in his nine games with the Royals since being acquired from the Cincinnati Cyclones on March 9. In his last thirty-one games, Gordon, who is currently eleventh amongst ECHL rookies in scoring (19g-34a=53pts) (+18), has registered forty-three points (14g-29a=43pts).

The Royals travel to First Arena in Elmira, New York tonight (April 1 @ 7:35 pm) to take on the Elmira Jackals in Reading's final away game of the year.
