Reading's Gordon Named In Glas Co ECHL Player Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Reading Royals rookie Ben Gordon is the In Glas Co ECHL Player of the Week for Mar. 23-29.

The 24 year old had four assists and six points in three games to help the Royals go 2-1-0.

Gordon scored the game-winning goal and had an assist in a 4-1 win against Elmira on Wednesday and he added a pair of assists and a power-play goal against Johnstown on Friday. He had an assist in a 2-1 win against Johnstown on Sunday to extend his scoring streak to seven games (4g-8a) and his assist streak to six games (8a).

He has 10 assists, 14 points and a plus-minus rating of +5 in nine games for Reading which acquired him on Mar. 9 from Cincinnati. He had 39 points (15g-24a) and a plus-minus rating of +13 games in 51 games for the Cyclones.

He ranks 11th among ECHL rookies with 53 points (19g-34a) in 60 games. The International Falls, Minn. native played the last four years at the University of Minnesota where he had 98 points (39g-59a) in 148 games from 2004-08.

On behalf of Ben Gordon, a case of pucks will be donated to a Reading youth hockey organization by In Glas Co, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, In Glas Co has donated more than 20,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.

Boudreau, who coached Mississippi for three seasons winning the Kelly Cup championship in 1999, was named NHL Coach of the Year in 2007-08 becoming the first former ECHL coach to receive the award. Peter Laviolette, who began his coaching career with the Wheeling Nailers, led Carolina Hurricanes to the Stanley Cup in 2006.
* There are 18 assistant coaches in the NHL who were players or coaches in the ECHL.
* There are 18 former ECHL officials scheduled to work as part of the NHL officiating team in 2008-09 with referees David Banfield, Chris Ciamaga, Ghislain Hebert, Marc Joannette, Mike Leggo, Wes McCauley, Dean Morton, Dan O'Rourke, Brian Pochmara, Kevin Pollock, Kyle Rehman, Chris Rooney, Justin St. Pierre and Ian Walsh and linesmen Steve Barton, Brian Mach, Tim Nowak and Jay Sharrers.
