Lamoureux Earns ECHL All-Rookie Honors

April 1, 2009 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release

PHOENIX - Jean-Philippe Lamoureux has been named the ECHL All-Rookie team goaltender for 2008-09.

Lamoureux stopped 30 shots in Saturday's 3-1 victory at Phoenix, his league-leading 32nd of the season. He also is tied for the ECHL lead with a .922 save percentage and ranks second in goals against average (2.33) and minutes (3,011). His league-leading seven shutouts also tie an ECHL single-season record, which he can break by blanking Utah either Friday or Saturday at 5:05 p.m. AT. Lamoureux, 32-16-2 overall on the season and 10-3 in his last 13 starts, was named the National Conference starting goalie at the 2009 ECHL All-Star Game and stopped nine of 10 shots in the first period, leaving with a 3-1 lead in an eventual 11-5 loss suffered by the Nationals.

Since the ECHL began naming the All-Rookie Team in 2000-01, seven players selected have gone on to play in the NHL. Four of the remaining five spots on this year's team were filled by members of the Wheeling Nailers, with Bakersfield forward Matt Pope as the only exception. The ECHL will announce its First-Team All-ECHL and Second-Team All-ECHL teams tomorrow.

The Aces (44-23-3, three points ahead in the West Division race) have won six of their last eight road games and 10 of their last 12 overall heading into this weekend's series against the Grizzlies, who clinched the final National Conference playoff spot when Phoenix lost to Idaho last night. The games on Friday and Saturday will be broadcast live on KFQD AM 750, with Peanut Farm Pre-Game Show coverage beginning at 4:45 p.m.

Alaska has beaten Utah six straight times and can wrap up its fourth West title and third National Conference crown by taking three of four points this weekend, regardless of what Idaho does in its remaining games against Phoenix tonight, Friday, and Saturday. Whether the Aces finish first or second, their best-of-seven, first round playoff schedule will be as follows (all times AT):

April 10 Utah/Victoria @ Alaska 7:15

April 11 Utah/Victoria @ Alaska 7:15

April 15 Alaska @ Utah/Victoria 5:05/6:05
