
Jackals Lock In Playoff Spot

Elmira, NY- The Elmira Jackals stamped their post season ticket with a 4-2 win on home ice tonight over the Reading Royals in front of 3,540 fans. The Jackals were lead by two point nights from Pierre-Luc Faubert, Chris Korchinski and Chaz Johnson. The Jackals finish off the regular season tomorrow night with a 7:05 p.m. contest with the Dayton Bombers.
The Jackals opened the scoring 2:18 into the first period with Chaz Johnsons' fifth goal of the season. Pierre-Luc Faubert assisted on the play. The Jackals then extended the lead to 2-0 at the 5:17 mark. On the power play Nathan Lutz gave a pass to Chaz Johnson who dished a feed to Chris Korchinski who blasted the puck past Beau Erickson. The Jackals carried the 2-0 lead into the second period.
In the second the Royals came out swinging with goals from Chris Stevens at the 4:01 mark and Vince Rocco at the 9:13 mark. Elmira would counter with two second period goals of their own. The first came at the 12:09 mark, Pierre-Luc Faubert's 24th of the season. Wes Cunningham and Chris Korchinski assisted on the power play tally. The Jackals added a two goal cushion at the 16:53 mark when Paul McIlveen blasted a shot over the blocker of Erickson. The Jackals held onto a 26-19 shot advantage and a 4-2 lead through two periods.
In the third period the Jackals played sound defensive hockey only allowing Reading four shots on goal. Elmira goaltender Michael Teslak was again named a Wallin Insurance Star of the Game after turning aside 21 of 23 shots in the contest. The Jackals ended the season series with the Royals at 5-3-0-2 and improved to a 38-26-2-5 record overall.
