
Wranglers Make History, Beat Utah In OT 3-2

West Valley, UT - The Las Vegas Wranglers (44-12-12, 100 Points) edged the Utah Grizzlies (30-28-9, 69 Points) 3-2 in overtime at the E-Center on Wednesday night. Captain Peter Ferraro broke the Wranglers single season record with his 35th goal of the season and second of the night at 2:03 of overtime. Ferraro also added an assist as Las Vegas clinched the National Conference and Pacific Division titles (#1 overall seed in conference). Left wing Marco Peluso added a goal and an assist as the Wranglers became the only team in ECHL history to record three straight 100-point seasons. Goalie Kevin Lalande stopped 27 of 29 shots for the victory, improving to 16-5-4. Las Vegas will play in Fresno on Friday night at 7:30 pm.
In the first period, the two teams traded goals less than two minutes apart. Utah tallied on the first power play of the night, just 13-seconds into the extra-man advantage. Defenseman James Sanford rifled a shot to the net and Garett Bembridge re-directed the puck for his 10th goal of the season at 6:13. A few minutes later, Las Vegas captain Peter Ferraro finished off a feed from Adam Miller at 8:21. Ferraro's 34th goal of the season tied the game 1-1 and tied the team mark for most goals in one season. Center Matt Dzieduszycki scored 34 goals during the 2005-06 season.
In the second period, Las Vegas claimed the lead as left wing Marco Peluso scored his fourth goal of the season at 11:42, giving the Wranglers a 2-1 lead. Peluso's one-timer was set up by Ferraro and Jim Jorgensen. The Wranglers outshot the Grizzlies 22-10 in the middle period.
In the third period, Utah scored with 5:40 to go in the game to tie the game 2-2. Left wing Ryan Kinasewich scored his 20th goal of the season off a centering pass from Rob Sirianni to force overtime.
In the extra frame, center Adam Miller stickhandled through center, springing defenseman Aaron Power over the left wing Utah blueline. Power, sent a cross-ice pass to Peter Ferraro in the right wing circle. Ferraro rifled his 35th goal of the season in the upper corner of the Utah net just 2:03 into overtime, giving Las Vegas the win.
Las Vegas will play in Fresno this Friday at 7:30 pm, before heading to Phoenix on Tuesday at 7:11 pm. The Wranglers will finalize the season with a pair of games at home on Friday, April 4th against Bakersfield and Saturday, April 5th against Phoenix. Both home games start at 7:05 pm at the Orleans Arena.
