Las Vegas Wranglers News Release

Las Vegas - In their 57th game of the season, the Las Vegas Wranglers clinched a Kelly Cup playoff spot tonight with a 2-1 shootout win over the Alaska Aces. The Wranglers now hold an overall 34-18-1-4 record good for second place in the ECHL.

Las Vegas held the shot advantages through 40 minutes of play. In the first period, the Wranglers outshot the Aces 7-4, and Alaska narrowed the gap to a 14-13 lead for Las Vegas in the second. Through nine combined power play attempts in the first two periods, both Aces goaltender Adam Courchaine and Wranglers goalie Joe Fallon stopped every shot they faced.

For the first goal of the night, Wranglers center Geoff Paukovich scored on Courchaine after 45:40 minutes of play. Las Vegas held the 1-0 lead until Aces forward Nick Mazzolini tied the game in the final two minutes of regulation. With neither team able to score in overtime, the Wranglers took the 2-1 win in a shootout on goals from left wing Josh Lunden, center Chris Francis, and left wing Adam Miller. Miller and Fallon, who was looking at his fourth shutout of the season through 58:09 minutes of play tonight, both received Three Star honors.

The Wranglers and Aces face each other twice this weekend before Las Vegas continues its road series against the Idaho Steelheads on March 2 and 3. The team returns home to Orleans Arena on Sunday, March 18, and Wranglers players will shave their heads on the ice after the game to raise money and awareness for St. Baldrick's Foundation and childhood cancers.
